Throughout the series, police officers are called "peelers." The nickname comes from the surname of Robert Peel (1788-1859, a British political and statesman, considered the father of the British police). In 1822, he joined the current government as Home Secretary, after which he carried out a number of important reforms of British criminal law and in 1829 established the Metropolitan Police of London. Thus, police constables acquired the nickname "bobby" or "peeler" ("bobby" is a shortened form of "Robert," and "peeler" is derived from the surname). As the crime-fighting methods developed by Peel were adopted, the use of these nicknames spread throughout the country. In England, "bobby" became more common, while the nickname "peeler" became widespread in Ireland, mainly in a negative context.
