Semyonov will continue his service as head of the criminal investigation department of the Main Directorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs for the Central District. His friend, Colonel Andrey Mikhaylov, will transfer to serve in a criminal district. FSB officers still suspect Semyonov of being the Architect, but there is no direct evidence of this. Mikhaylov does not understand whether he can trust his friend and continues to inform the FSB about Semyonov's actions.

Semyonov learns that a gang led by Simon is planning to kidnap the businessman Shirokov. He develops an operation, but, before he can coordinate it with Mikhailov, he acts alone. Taking advantage of his resemblance to Shirokov, Semyonov takes his place, and the gangsters kidnap him.
