About the series
Bounty hunting is a complicated profession.
What it’s about
After the fall of the Galactic Empire, lawlessness spreads through the galaxy. A lone gunfighter works as a bounty hunter in the outer reaches, far from the New Republic's reach. He is a Mandalorian, a member of a once-great warrior race now reduced to hiding underground and rebuilding. He gives most of his earnings to his people. When a former Imperial client hires him to retrieve a target, he discovers the target is a small, innocent creature. He realizes the client means it harm, and he must decide whether to follow the bounty or protect the child.
What hooks you
Pedro Pascal plays the title character, a warrior who never removes his helmet. The series has won a Saturn Award for Best Television Presentation and a Screen Actors Guild Award for its stunt ensemble. Directors include Dave Filoni, Rick Famuyiwa, and Bryce Dallas Howard. The cast also features Gina Carano as Cara Dune and Giancarlo Esposito as Moff Gideon. Set six years before the birth of Rey, it expands the Star Wars universe with a space western feel.
Who it’s for
It is worth a look for anyone who enjoys space westerns with a lone hero protecting an innocent against a harsh galaxy. It will also appeal to those who like quiet, character-driven stories set in the Star Wars universe.

Trivia
- According to screenwriter Dave Filoni, one of the scenes required filming many stormtroopers, but there were not enough costumes for everyone. Members of the international fan club "501st Legion" had to be used with their own costumes.
- The Mandalorian's weapon is a slightly modified Bergmann No. 1 pistol from 1894. Some other famous weapons from the Star Wars franchise films also have real-life prototypes.
- The series is set 6 years before Rey's birth.
