Angeliki Papoulia was born in Athens, Greece. In 2000 she graduated from the University of Athens (Theatre Studies) and the Embros Drama School. She speaks English and French. She has appeared in the following films: "Matchbox" (Kiki), dir. Yannis Economides, 2002. "Dogtooth" (older daughter), dir. Yorgos Lanthimos, which won the Un Certain Regard prize at the 2009 Cannes Film Festival and was nominated for an Academy Award (Best Foreign Language Film) at the 83rd Academy Awards in 2011. "Alps" (nurse), dir. Yorgos Lanthimos, which won the Osella for Best Screenplay at the 68th Venice International Film Festival in 2011. "Blast" (Maria), dir. Syllas Tzoumerkas, which premiered at the Locarno Film Festival in 2014. "The Lobster" (heartless woman), dir. Yorgos Lanthimos, which won the Jury Prize at the 2015 Cannes Film Festival and was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Original Screenplay at the 89th Academy Awards. For her role in "Dogtooth" she received the Heart of Sarajevo award for Best Actress at the 2009 Sarajevo Film Festival. In 2004 she co-founded the theatre group blitz (www.theblitz.gr). She wrote, directed and acted in all of the group's productions up until the last one in 2017. The group presented its productions at various important festivals and theatres in France (Avignon Festival, Théâtre de la Ville, Comédie de Reims), the Netherlands, Germany (Schaubühne, Thalia Theater), Italy, Belgium, Poland, Austria, Norway, Greece (Athens and Epidaurus Festival, Onassis Cultural Centre), Turkey, Lebanon. Recently, together with Christos Passalis, she has been directing theatre productions at the Lucerne Theatre in Lucerne / Switzerland. She has also appeared in productions directed by Michail Marmarinos, Lefteris Vogiatzis, as well as in productions of the Greek National Theatre under the direction of Yorgos Houvardas and Yorgos Lanthimos.
