Jesse James Hutch was born in Alberta, Canada — the same place as the Marvel character Wolverine. At the age of ten, he watched his first movie — the animated film The Hobbit — and instantly fell in love with the art of storytelling. In high school, Jesse was known as 'Hardcore' Hutch because of his adrenaline-fueled outdoor pursuits: whitewater rafting, whitewater kayaking, free climbing, and mountain biking. These pursuits were often videotaped and turned into short films. One day in high school history class, Hutch staged a hostage-taking scene for a presentation. Teachers were held, smoke grenades went off, paintball markers were used, and the fire alarm went off. His grades for the presentation were high, minus a few points for calling the fire department.

A collector of movie posters, some would say Hutch was an 'actor' even as a boy. It was in 2001 that the title of 'performer' became professional for him.

His first official casting that he booked was for Dark Angel (FOX), where he played a mutant; the second casting for Wolf Lake (CBS), which he also booked, had to be turned down due to a shooting conflict with Dark Angel. Among many leading roles:
