Biography

Lam Suet (Chinese: 林雪, born July 8, 1964) was born in Tianjin and in his youth, in 1979, came to Hong Kong to claim an inheritance left by his grandfather. Soon all the money was squandered, and Lam had to get by with various odd jobs.

In the mid-eighties, with the help of friends, he found work on film sets. He performed many different duties — from lighting technician and prop master to set administrator, as well as set and script supervisor.

Gradually Lam became interested in acting and, by his own account, pestered various directors until they gave in and gave him tiny roles. There are two key people in Lam's acting career. The first is Stephen Chow, who befriended him in his early years working in the film crew and cast him in such films as "The God of Cookery" (1996) and "Kung Fu Hustle."

The second person is director Johnnie To. Since 1996 Lam has appeared in more than 80 films, and at least 20 of them were directed or produced by To.
