Ukrainian screenwriter, film director, actor, cinematographer, producer. People's Artist of the Ukrainian SSR (1987). Academician of the Academy of Arts of Ukraine (1996). Graduated from the cinematography department of VGIK (1960, workshop of A.V. Galperin). From 1960 to 1963 he was a director of photography at Yalta Film Studio, and from 1964 he was a cinematographer and director at the Kyiv Film Studio named after A.P.

Dovzhenko. He made his debut as a cinematographer with the film "Goodbye, Doves!" (1960). Widespread recognition of his cinematographic mastery came after Sergei Parajanov's film "Shadows of Forgotten Ancestors." Yurii Gerasimovich passed away on June 15, 2010 at his dacha in Prokhorovka (Cherkasy Oblast, Ukraine). He was buried on June 18 in the village of Prokhorovka, Cherkasy Oblast.
