    Commissioner Max Steiner and his police dog Rex are on a case involving explosives. In a restaurant on Stephansplatz, a customer, Sascha Trautmann, is sitting on a bomb. If he moves or stands up, the restaurant will explode. Barely saved, the man disappears into the night. The next day, he dies under mysterious circumstances while riding in a horse-drawn carriage. A false identity card suggests the deceased might have been a spy. Only the first name of the woman with whom he had his last date is known. Max and his colleague Felix Burger, accompanied by Rex, begin their investigation.

    A dead baker, many suspects: Rex searches for the truth in a village full of mysterious motives. In the bakery, baker Hans Schlager is discovered dead in the oven by his son early one morning. It quickly becomes clear that the argumentative baker had numerous enemies. Several neighbors come under suspicion, including a bookseller and a pharmacist. While Max and Felix question the suspects, Inspector Rex uncovers crucial clues and sheds light on the puzzling murder case.

During the investigation, detectives Max and Felix encounter mysterious circumstances. Commissioner Rex leads them into the deep catacombs of the library.

    Max and Julia go to Semmering and take Rex with them. They plan to attend a theatrical performance at the Südbahnhotel. A year ago, the troupe's artistic director died here under mysterious circumstances. Shortly after the performance begins, Max and Julia find themselves taken hostage.

    Max, together with the team of security entrepreneur Livia Sauer, provides security at an evening performance. Because Rex apparently triggers a false bomb alarm by mistake, Max has to go with him to check. The next day, a homeless young woman who had been sleeping in a secluded spot on the riverbank is found dead in the Danube Canal. Rex leads Max and Felix through underground tunnels straight to a jeweler's safe from which diamonds were stolen. Together with Tasha, the head of the robbery division, they track down a gang of skillful thieves.

    The Rose Cavalier

    Max and Rex are haunted by a ghost from the past. A young woman in a red dress is found dead in an apartment. Next to her lie a bouquet of red roses and a bottle of red wine. The staging of the scene reminds Max of the serial killer Harald Binder, whom he arrested and imprisoned years ago. Laura, Anna's friend and her roommate, who briefly rented her apartment to the murdered woman, demands that Max be given police protection. After visiting Binder in prison, Max learns that his lawyer is none other than Christoph Dreger.
