Besides him, there are two more brothers in the family: the elder, Yegor, and the younger, Ivan. Danila's father, Valery Ivanovich Kozlovsky (born in 1946), is an Honored Worker of Culture of the Russian Federation, Doctor of Philosophical Sciences, Professor at MGIK; he took part in creating the advertising department at that university, as well as Russia's first Higher School of Advertising and the first Russian Student Festival of Social Advertising. His mother is Nadezhda Zvenigorodskaya, an actress by training. His parents divorced when Danila was small. As a child, he briefly studied at a ballet school. For six years Danila studied at the Kronstadt Naval Cadet Corps, graduating in 2002. He began acting in films back in 1998. His first role was that of a hooligan in the series "Prostye istiny". After graduating from the cadet corps, Danila, contrary to all persuasion and warnings, entered the St. Petersburg State Academy of Theatre Arts for the acting and directing course under Lev Dodin (he graduated in 2007). While studying at SPbGATI, he acquired skills in playing the alto saxophone. Starting from his second year, he acted in films. In 2006, Danila Kozlovsky was awarded the title of laureate of the Russian film critics and film press award "White Elephant" for his role in the film "Garpastum" by director Alexei German Jr.

He plays leading roles in productions of the St. Petersburg Academic Maly Drama Theatre - Theatre of Europe. In 2014, Danila Kozlovsky's Hollywood debut took place in Mark Waters' film "Vampire Academy", based on the book series by American writer Richelle Mead. Kozlovsky played Dmitri Belikov, the mentor of one of the film's heroines. In 2015, Danila performed a solo concert program, demonstrating his musical and dance talent - "The Big Dream of an Ordinary Man", in which he performed hits by classics of American pop-jazz vocals of the 1940s-1950s. F. Kirkorov became the producer of this show. In early 2016, the premiere of director Pavel Ruminov's film "Status: Free" took place, in which Kozlovsky played the lead role and also served as producer. Danila Kozlovsky is also producing Olga Zueva's directorial debut "Na rayone". In the scandalous film "Matilda" he played the role of Count Vorontsov. In 2016, he began work as a director on the film "Trener", in which he played the lead role of former national football team striker Yuri Stoleshnikov, who becomes the coach of a small provincial team. Danila also became one of the producers and screenwriters. In March 2017, Kozlovsky was announced as an official ambassador of the 2018 FIFA World Cup. Danila is actively involved in charity work.
