Our first goal -- the wildest and most famous part of the country -- the Omo River valley, where wild and rather dangerous tribes live. To visit them, we will have to overcome a long and difficult journey to the very south of the country. The road will not be boring. We will see how the struggle for water goes on where there is practically none. We will party at the mind-blowing tribal wedding of the Konso people, where instead of champagne they drink kvass and dance until they drop. And then we will master the most fun of Ethiopian professions - we will pick cotton. And not only pick - in forty-degree heat we will play African-style snowballs! The first tribe we will meet -- the Hamer. We will live with the natives for several unforgettable days -- we will try Hamer beer, master the profession of extreme beekeepers, and trade small goods at the weekly market of all the tribes of the area. Thanks to us, the Hamer will learn what toothpaste is and will properly brush their teeth for the first time. And they will see a movie for the first time in their lives. But the most interesting for us will be the main event in the life of any tribal family -- the rite of initiation of a boy into a man. We will learn why on this day the natives, as a sign of love, whip their women with rods until they bleed.

The crazy heat and thirty-kilogram bunches of bananas will make this task, to put it mildly, not easy. Having gathered the banana harvest, we will go to meet another famous Ethiopian tribe -- the Mursi. We will find out why they are said to be -- not people, but beasts, and why not only tourists but the Ethiopians themselves fear them. We will show what it is -- the beauty of Mursi women: why girls cut and stretch their lower lip and knock out their front teeth. We will witness a shocking process: scarification with a dirty blade, without anesthesia or disinfection. And for a snack we will taste another bloody delicacy -- raw liver, and wash it down with the tribal moonshine araki. But most importantly - we will truly take a risk and do what no one has done before us -- we will stay in the tribe overnight.

But Harar is famous not only for khat; there are other plantations there too: pleasant, useful and very sweet. Sugar cane plantations. We will not only learn how to harvest cane, but also hold competitions for the speed of gathering the sweet harvest - Ukraine versus Ethiopia. Africa. Episode 14

    45 min

Today we are in for a small but very interesting and unusual Ethiopian town of Shashamane - a true mecca of Rastafarians. We will learn who the Rastafari are and what Rastafarianism is. We will visit a local celebrity -- a music promoter and organizer of reggae concerts. He will give us a tour of a personal museum dedicated to the Emperor of Ethiopia Haile Selassie. And in the evening we are in for the main party of the year in the town of Shashamane -- the birthday of the reggae idol of the Rastafarians -- Bob Marley. In the Ethiopian capital Addis Ababa we will visit a man named Hapte Selassie. He is not related to Haile Selassie, but in his time he was also a very big man and close to the emperor. This is a former minister of tourism who stood at the origins of the tourism life of Ethiopia. It was he who opened the beauty of Ethiopia to the world, and tourism to Ethiopia itself, which had not existed in this country before Hapte's arrival. This man was the first to go explore the dangerous wilds in the south of the country, met the Mursi and Hamer tribes, made the first advertising photographs of African beauties, which even now, decades later, continue to attract tourists to the country of Pushkin and Ras Tafari. Now the former minister is in business, knows 8 languages, and Russian is the first language he spoke. He leads a healthy lifestyle, and at 85 he is cheerful, full of strength and easily withstands an eight-hour fashion show, which you and we will attend. We head for the city of Harar in northeastern Ethiopia. We are in the homeland of coffee. Ethiopia gave the world a drink without which most of us cannot imagine our morning. Without suspecting it, in the mornings we very often drink precisely Ethiopian coffee, and giant coffee factories buy products from local farms. Today we will see how coffee is harvested, how coffee plantations are watered, and how real Ethiopian coffee is prepared, than which it is simply impossible to find anything tastier and fresher!

    Africa. Episode 15

    45 min

"World Inside Out" continues its African journey. In the fifteenth, final episode of the African season we will return to Tanzania, look in on Zanzibar and, as a farewell, stop by Ethiopia! So, Tanzania. Today we are in for an acquaintance with a person of an unusual profession - a shaman! The acquaintance with the sorcerer will not be in vain - thanks to him we will learn that everything will be fine in Ukraine. While in Tanzania it would be a sin not to look in on the magical island of Zanzibar. Our happiness - constantly chew coconuts, eat bananas! - the children's song seems to be sung about the inhabitants of the paradise island. For them coconuts are no more surprising than apples or potatoes are for a Ukrainian. Coconuts grow here in every garden, on every corner, and on huge coconut plantations. Naturally we will go to a master class on collecting coconuts! But the island is famous not only for coconuts. Today we will learn how to do something without which not a single woman on Zanzibar can imagine herself - henna drawings on the body. We will say goodbye to Tanzania and, as a final stop, drop in on Ethiopia once more. To the capital -- the metropolis of Addis Ababa. In previous episodes we already told you how large the Ukrainian diaspora in Addis Ababa is. Ukrainians who moved here forever work as engineers and doctors, artists and lawyers. The education received back in the Soviet Union does not go to waste here. Today we will meet Lyudmila from Crimea, who will show her personal elite lyceum, and Doctor Zoya from Novohrad-Volynskyi in the Zhytomyr region, who will save us from tropical infections. Finally we will visit already familiar places in the south of Ethiopia. Somewhere here nearby in the Omo River valley live the famous Hamer and Mursi tribes -- wild, warlike and existing by primitive laws. They are famous, and tourists come to Ethiopia for their sake. But there are also other peoples, not so hyped and outwardly colorful, who long ago adopted the appearance of modern people and are used to wearing jeans. Today we are going to one of such modernized tribes of Ethiopia - the Dorze. These people live in the mountains, at an altitude of 3000 meters. They are famous for bright textiles, intoxicating mead, unique living transformer houses and, most importantly, the so-called false bananas. We will learn what a banana without bananas is and how to make real banana bread from it!
